Guitar lesson

We then rushed as Edwards guitar teacher arrived. As this was filming inside we used one back light to lift the scene. I filmed edward playing and singing. We filmed a full shot of both him and the teacher then we filmed close ups of Edwards handplaying the guitar, Edwards face while he was playing. I think my favourite shot of this was the close up of Edwards hand and i think this will work well in the Edit. We also had an interview with Edwards guitar teacher about what its like to teach Edward and how he compares to his other Student, we got some good strong answers from the interview.

Garden footage

when we got back to the house we decided to film the trampoline shots for our opening scene and playing with the dog and riding bikes, we did this early as we wanted the lighting to be good quality. We got some really natural shots of Edward and Diana on the trampoline and having a bike race, i think the opening shot where you will just see the faces of Edward and Diana bouncing on the trampoline will work well and attract the audience to the documentary.

Barnsdale Lodge

As we got to Barnsdale Lodge we had already visited the location so we knew exactly what we wanted to film. We filmed shots of Edward working in the kitchen including an over the shoulder shot. Watching the footage back i think these shots work quite well and i would like to see them in the final edit. We then filmed Edward walking on the property grounds using panning to follow him walking. Other footage included Edward working in the reception and then outside the hotel. I think overall we have some good footage from Barnsdale Lodge and have more than enough to put into our edit.

Filming day..18/11/08

We set off sticking to the call sheets around 9:30 after picking up the equipment.We arrived at around 11am and went to Barnsdale Lodge straight away, where Edward does work experience twice a week to film Edward.

Where are we going to film?We shall be filming in the twins hometown of Rutland in the following places:
At Home
At Edwards place of work.
At Edwards basketball practise.
At Diana's universtity in Nottingham.

When its going to take place?We will be filming on the 18th and the 19th of November 2008.
Structure.
Beginning - Looking back at the past and photo montages of the twins childhood and outline the facts of down syndrome.
Middle - Comparing the current lifestyles.
End - Looking into the future and what it will bring for Edward and Diana.
Audio.We got in contact with two muscians from Bournemouth university who have agreed to compose and record our soundtrack.

Edward and Diana

Edward and Diana are the twins that we are basing our documentary on. A si have only ever met Diana i thought that i would look through some photo's of the twins to try and keep a feel of their relationship, from the photos i can see that they have a close relationship and even though they are different they have a lot of similarities.

We decided to go ahead with our final idea on film on Tuesday 18/11/08 at The twins home town in Rutland and film Diana in University on Thursday 20/11/08. We arranged call sheets, the script and storyboards in preperation for the filming.

A story of a family with Downsyndrome

I found this documentary more interesting as more was hapenning in it and like our documentary this one is only 4 minutes. I think this one was more interesting as there was talking about feelings rather than facts and there was more Videos and photo montages.

Documentary kids with Down Syndrome

I felt as if i needed to learn more about down-syndrome to carry out the documentary successful, therefore i researched the disability on the Internet and then looked for documentaries on the same subject. The clip above is from the Documentary 'Kids with Down syndrome' I think this has helped me get a better idea of what i want our film to be as i found this Documentary quite boring as the filming of the kids is too long and all the talking is mainly facts of Down syndrome, i want more to be going off in our film.

Documentary idea

After thinking about our idea's we have finally decided to create our documentary based around aset of twins which one was born with down syndrome and the other wasnt, investigating the differences between them. After discussing all our ideas and the research we have done we started to plan the plot of the Documentary and vital information such as:

Individuals in documentary: Diana and her twin brother Edward, Parents, Individual view on
the street.

Documentary title: Two Of A Kind

Locations: The twins house in Rutland- Filming inside the twins rooms
-The college Edward goes to and University Diana
goes to
-Edwards place of Work

We wanted to start the film looking at everyday life and describing Edward as a person rather than the fact that he has down syndrome but then we were advised to start off with footage of the twins so that we don't go off course. We decided that we will start the documentary with a montage of photos of Diana and Edward from when they were young topresent with a voiceover discussing their general lifes without mentioning the fact that Eddy has a disability, we are going to try and do the documentary without mentioning this fact and letting the audience work it out for themselves. The start of our documentary will be their past.
The middle of the documentary will be the main part using a split screen of the twin having individual interviews but with the same questions and seeing the difference in answers. Becuase the interview will be split screen while one twin is answering the question we will show the other doing an everday activity. Therefore the middle part of the film will be about The present.
We will then move onto looking at the futures of Diana and Ed and looking into the differences between the lifes they are about to lead to wrap the documentary up.

I think the structure of having the beginning as the past the middle as the present and the ending as the future will work quite nicely.

Seminar with Jeanie Finlay

Today Jeanie Finlay came in to talk to us about Documentary making. Jeanie comes from nottingham but has travelled various places to work such as Japan and America. I really enjoyed the seminar, and it was really inspiring to look at her work. I like the style in which she films and was generally interesting in the topics she filmed.

Start of Year 2 - Documentary

After completing my first year of Multimedia i decided to carry on into my second year choosing the Audio Visual Pathway as this is the area i enjoyed most last year.
We have currently been set the task of creating a 4 minute documentary on a single character in groups of 5. Each group member has a specific role to play in the creation of the short movie, and i have chosen the role of Camera production, i chose this as i think it would be an interesting role to have and interests me the most.
We came up with idea's on people that we know that would interest some-one enough to watch our documentary, the idea's we came up with were:

Idea 1

The first idea we came up with was one of the girls in the group had a handy man who was retired from an police drug squad, we thought that he may have some interesting stories to tell in the documentary and we could create some re-constructions of them. After talking to him we decided that it may not be the best subject to concentrate on, and the idea kind of crumbled so we looked for a different approach to the documentary.

Idea 2

We next tried to think of an idea which was different and could relate more to one character. One of the girls in the group is a twin, her twin brother Edward was born with Down-syndrome. We saw this as being interesting subject especially the fact that these two individuals were twins, however very different. We want to look into Edward's everyday life and compare it to his twins. We would go and film a day in their house and look at all the aspects of every day life with down syndrome and how he feels that Diana was able to come to university, when he is incapable of doing so. I think so far this is my favourite idea and i think it could be made into a successful and interesting documentary.

I really liked the way the words were used in this advert as i think it makes you really listen to what is being said. Theres also an element of excitement because there is so much going on and you find yourself trying to catch up with what is happening.

problems ..

I have been having problems importing the videos into flash , so i think i am going to have to think of alternative videos to put ion place of the videos i took at the competition, heres a video i edited of a moving tap shoe, i quite like this video, i like the old fashioned theme and the way the tap shoe looks as if its moving on its own.

i think this website has a neat layout, user friendly, simple but works well. I also like the idea that you can veiw different aspects of the phone by clicking on them, it gives the user a better idea of whether the like the phone and if they would consider buying it.

For videos to put in the video cameras i filmed dnaces at a recent competition that nottingham trent held, i did very little editing to the videos as i wanted them to look as they had just been filmed.

Gwen stephani - music video

In my opinion this is one of the best music video's i have ever seen. I really like the way that they have taken a childrens story such as alioce in wonderland and converted it to being modern. This video never bored me becuase there is so much going on.

I really liked the layout of this website and the idea of it although i did not understand it as it was in a foreign language and the intructions of what to do were not very clear and i found myself wondering what to do at the very begining. I do reali like the layout and presentation of this website though.

Problems with project2

As i have very little experience with flash I'm finding it hard to get any of my ideas to work, so i think i am going to have to simplify my ideas to get an achievable outcome. To do this i think my new idea will be to have 5 interactive video cameras so that when they are clicked videos play from rehersals and shows.

response to alcohol adverts

In response to this i decided to do some drawings that relate to similar kind of theme. I decided to look at the theme of drugs firstly.

I then started looking at artists who created pieces that had links with issues such as drink driving when i came across Kathe Kolwitz , i found this piece which i copied using pencil on cartridge paper.

While creating my animation in 3d studio max i looked at linking the objects so that one thing led to another. Here are some screen shots from my work in 3D studio max.

And here is my first attempt at creating the animation , i am not happy with this version as the order of things all happens too fast.

3D studio max

As it was quite evident i needed to work on my animation, i decide to start over fresh and work on a completely new project , i decided to use an object instead of a person as my avatar as i thought certain objects suited my personality better. Some idea's i thought of were :

• Dice- represents the fun loving side of my personality
• Tornado- represts my energetic side
• Snoflakes/ rain -represents my feminine soft side.

After giving this a lot of thought i decided to base my animation on a dice. My dice will interact with different aspects from the world of games such as :

• Board games
• Juggling balls
• balloons
• chess pieces
• dominos
• Playing cards
• Hop skotch

After developing my idea's i decided that my favourite idea was the dance kit bag with interactive items within the bag and started thinking of interactive objects that could have been in the bag, some ideas i came up with were:

• An interactive tap shoe that started tapping when you clicked on it.


• A water bottle that spilt over when it was clicked on.


• Make up that moved and drew on the bag


• Dance hats and masks that moved


• Hairspray that sprayed when it was clicked on


• Dance laces and hair ribbons that tied when clicked

Project 2 - identities

Interactive box
After thinking about some idea's for my interactive box i think i want to work with one of my main interests which is dance. Some of the ideas i had were:

• An interactive dance bag with tapping tap shoes, open photo albums, pouring water etc.
• A stage with interactive lights, dancers etc.
• A backstage area with interactive microphones, make up, water bottles, etc.
• Dance studio with interactive ballet bars,music players etc.

alcohol adverts

This alcohol- know your limits adverts is in my opinion one of the best adverts iv seen in a while, it really gets the point across as it really relates to a lot of feelings you have when under the influence of alcohol. This advert scared and shocked me a little bit which is why i think it works really well.

speed awareness adverts

After viewing some speed awareness videos i really liked the overall outcome of these adverts.



I really like the way this advert has been filmed on a camera phone, as i think it dramatises the boy getting hit by the car as you are not expecting it at all. With all these adverts i think they work, as a driver myself i was shocked to see these and makes me not want to speed.

Back to second life

Initially i found second life a bit strange. For some reason i found the idea of talking to other peoples avatars a bit strange and i also found the idea of talking to complete strangers a bit wierd. I enjoyed the setup of my avatar where i had to create my character , especially changing the features of my avatar, such as facial features, and the clothes that my character was wearing.

Im glad i decided to change my character to a boy even though i noticed i got different sorts of people coming to talk to me when i was a girl to when i was a boy. When i was a girl more females talked to me whereas when i converted my character into a male when i tried to talk to females they just avioded me and didnt reply.

I found the interface of second life not all that easy to understand, i think the tutorials were sometimes hard to find and on occasions it would tell your to do something that wouldnt work. As i was doing one tutorial i came across a stone statue who told me to go and tell "his brother" a statue further up what the prophet was and when he asked me for the answer and i replied he just never responded and i must have tried it like 10 times.

Overall i did actually quite enjoy second life and got used to everything i initially found strange. Im not sure if i will carry on using second life though, i have enjoyed it this term but i dont think its something i would do often in my spare time, i may use it now and again but not on a regular basis like i have been doing this term.

A small animation that i tried but didnt really work as i was just tryin to become familiar with creating animations.

Creation of my monster

I started to put my ideas onto 3d studio max , but the program didnt become any easier to use. Although after a while i started to get a little more familiar with the program and it became easier to use. Although i had to change my design ideas slightly.

Design

I have been looking at different aspects of a monster such as eyes, mouth and shape i sketched some of these to see what would work best on my monster.

3D studiomax

After doing seminars and work sheets on 3D studio max im still finding it really hard, i think its something im just going to have to work at. In our seminars we have been learning how to create and animate our names, simple objects like trees, slightly more complicated objects like squids and walking men.

I also looked at creating skins for the moster by creating them in paint and then editing them in photoshop

Avatar background

I think for my avatar background i will create a city scene! I think this will suit a monster best, i also think that a city scene would be intersting to use to animate my monster as it could jump on the buildings or interact with different objects you would find in the city. My other possibilty for a background would be a garden scene as i think this would be interesting for interaction purposes during animation.

working in 3D studio max

Im finding workin in 3D studio max really hard. I have tried designing some monsters and short animations but none of them have really worked out . Here are some that i tried.

Avatar

After researching different types of avatars i could create i have decided to create my avatar as a monster, my reasons for this are :

• A monster comes across less girly than most of my other ideas and suits my character more
• I haven't really come to grips with 3D studio max yet so i don't want to make it too complicated, therefore i feel a monster will be a simpler choice.

I am still going to continue with the idea of my monster being a cartoon monster as this suits my personality best. I will look at different design of my monster and try some out in 3D studio max before i start designing my avatar.

avatars from a different era

looking at lifestyles from different era's i could take my avatar back in time .I think my most popular choices wud b cavewomen, tudors or from the 60s . If i was going to take my avatar back in time i would probably make her a dancer from an earlier time period as dancing is a huge part of my life. However i think this would be a really obvious avatar to make.

Monster avatar

I think a monster avatar would suit my character but make it more of a friendly monster like the ones in monsters inc. This also doesn't have any girly features about it which i like. I could use scary monsters which relate to the fantasy mhythical creatures but its the same situation where i dont think it reflects me.

Different aged avatars

If i was goin to make a avatar a different age i think i would go older rather than younger, as i think it would be more interesting to create myself as something i havnt experienced rather than something i have.

Fantasy avatar

I think fantasy would make a good avatar as there are no rules and you could create what u wanted. The only thing about this would be fantasy would relate to a fairy or mermaid or something like that and i feel as if this is a bit stereo typical of me being a girl and people would expect me to create an avatar of something really girly even though a fairy would represent part of my personality.I could also follow the route of fantasy being mythical creates so that its not quite as girly but i still feel that a mythical create would not represent my character.

Animal avatar

I think an animal avatar would work well reflecting someones personality , for example a lion or tiger would represent someone that is fiery, intimidating, angry where as a monkey would represent some one who is cheeky, mischievous, cute and a swan would represent an elegant dainty character. I think if i create an avatar of myself thats an animal i would choose a frog as i think that represents my personality best.

Avatar ideas -Male avatar .......

As i have already used a male avatar in my second life project i may take this on further and make my avatar in 3D studio max a male. I think a male avatar is interesting as it would show me in a different way , i also think its interesting to keep the avatar like me in a male version becuase im still representing me making it more of an avatar. I could also look at males very different from me, elderly males, males younger than me.

As i was looking round second life i cme accross WLF ninja Skuoz Hawker, I think he was a really interesting character, and also a very interesting avatar of himself as it already gives off what kind of person he is.

I thought it was really cool that you could sit and watch the sunset , even though the sky doesnt really change a lot...! i just thought it was a really nice idea and different to most things that you can do in second life.

After looking at my avatar in 3D studio max one of my ideas is to have my character as an older man so i thought to get an idea of ehat this would look like and see if i like the idea, i would convert my avatar in second life to an older male male changing his appearance.

I decided to find unusual places to sit as some places were not suitable and you were not alowwed to sit there. Normal places i could obviously sit like walls and things like that but i wanted to see where else it would allow me to sit so i went looking around and just clicked on interesting things sit here. On the below image i was allowed to sit in the garden part but not in the fountain.

3D modeliing

i have been workin on 3D studio max startin to create simple animations. The first animation i did in my seminar was my name jumping. I found this quite easy and simple but i think this was because we had instructions on what to do.

Mohina Website

While browsing the website i found this online boutique website , i really liked the design of it because the opening screen is a view of inside the shop and as you navigate around the shop you can click on the diffferent items of clothing it displays all the items they have in that range. I think this type of website would appeal to me more to buy the clothes from this company. I do however think that when you click on the item and the products they have are displayed it could be alittle more exciting as it is just all the skirts shown for example with no real setup.

second life

While exploring second life i saw this enviroment which could be an enviroment for my 3d studio max avatar, as one of my idea is to create a fantasy fairy so i thought id try out some thing similar in 3D studio max.

after looking at all aspects of fantasy i decided to look further into faries i wanted 2 make my avatar a mythical creature in a fairy style.

iv been investigating fairies and fantasy world for my 3D avatar. I looked at images related to fantasy.

Orange unlimited advert

i Really like all the orange adverts that are out at the moment as i think there all really imagionative and creative . I especially like the below one because i think its a really simple idea but it works really really well. I also really like the television advertisment as its a nice advert 2 watch and put the message of the advert across well with out bein cheesy or obvious.




these are the best adverts iv seen in ages because of how simple they are, but how effective they have been made i also think the music works really well in both adverts.

teleporting

after taking one of the tutorials i tried teleporting to different environments in second life, The first place i teleported to was dance land. But i couldnt really find anything interesting in here so i decided to teleport some where else..

I decided to teleport do a different environment, this type of enviroment i the kind of enviroment i want to use for my avatar in 3D studio max. As it is a more fantasy like land.
