case study 2 - Jammie Thomas-Rasset
Jammie Thomas-Rasset didn't know how good she had it. Back in 2007, the Minnesota mother was the first person to be sued by the RIAA for copyright infringement to actually take the case to trial, after she was charged with downloading copyrighting songs through the p2p network, Kazaa. The Thomas-Rasset was found guilty of illegally downloading 24 songs and fined $10,000 for each one.totaling $240,000. Later the single mother was found guilty again and had to pay $80,000 per song. $1.9 million in all. Se told the times " There's no way they're ever going to get that. I'm a mom, limited means, so I'm not going to worry about it now."
case studies
UK, Example
Gary Boulter, a Bristol, UK man was sentenced to 15 months in prison and had to pay 12,000 fine after being sentenced on 23 different charges related to pirate video games, films, music and pornography.
Boulter came under police suspicion after an anonymous tipster called and said they believed he had a "copying factory" in his home. Once inside, the authorities discovered at least one room that was designed specifically for software duplication, which is where the 2,300 copied discs were found.“I congratulate South Gloucestershire Trading Standards and local Police for successfully shutting down Gary Boulter’s criminal operation," said Michael Rawlinson, ELPSA managing director. "ELSPA would like to thank the efforts of everyone concerned in their attempts to protect legitimate local traders and remove illegal products from the marketplace.”

initial ideas
i decided the best way to get across the point that it could happen to any one would be to use a real life case study of someone who has suffered the consequences of illegal file sharing. my idea i to have footage of a normal, regular individual with a voice over explaining what the crime was that this person committed, also explaining why is was illegal. then ending with the titles. " Think your different to this person?" " Think again, IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU"
Idea 2
My second idea would be to recreate an interview with an actor pretending to be one of the characters who was jailed for illegal file sharing, discussing what they did that was wrong, using the interview as a way of clearly answering all the questions outlined in the brief still ending it in the same way as above.

20 second advert
After looking into what i wanted to get across in my advertisment i have to decided to go with the idea of basing it around a slogan like " think it wouldn't happen to you?" a lot of people illegally file share and don't think they will ever get caught, i want to show how you can get caught !

Online advertising
A method which has been around for some time now is online maqrketing, where websites can be used to enhance products. Most companies will have a website which gives information on their company and what they sell.
bluetooth marketing
A trend that has become a very popular way of using multimedia for advertising is bluetooth marketing. Companies can send offers, release dates of products etc. via bluetooth to pursuade customers to use their service. This would appeal to comapies as it is low cost, and also a convenient quick way to reach millions of people. An example of a company who use bluetooth are EA Games. They send previews of new games and release dates via bluetooth to potential customers. They also send applications where customers can setdiary date reminders on their phone for game releases.

This was created by media college students, i dont think this is a strong campign as they dont really get a point across and i personally dont think it would have a strong effect on any one or change anyones perspective on the situation !
When is it illegal?

What is file sharing?
File sharing is the practice of distributing or providing access to digitally stored information, such as computer programs, multi-media (audio, video), documents, or electronic books. While file sharing is not of itself illegal, the increasing popularity of the mp3 music format in the late 1990s led to the release and growth of Napster and other software that, while designed simply to aid in the sharing of electronic files, in practice led to a huge growth in illegal file sharing: the sharing of copyright protected files without permission
Simulator project
Breif :
The copyright protection society is starting a public information campaign that illustrates and explains what file sharing is, when and why it is illegal and the consequences of being involved with this particular activity. They want you to produce a piece of multimedia that will address the points above.
